Shri Annapurna Mata Puja Vidhi

Shri Annapurna Mata puja is performed for food security, nourishment, prosperity, health, and removal of financial or household scarcity. Maa Annapurna is the goddess who provides ann (food) and sustains life.

Preparation

  • Take a bath early in the morning and wear clean clothes

  • Clean the kitchen or puja area thoroughly

  • Place an image or idol of Maa Annapurna on a clean platform

  • Decorate with red or yellow cloth and flowers

  • Sit facing east or north direction

  • Maintain a clean and devotional atmosphere, especially in the kitchen area

Required Items (Samagri)

  • Idol or image of Maa Annapurna

  • Rice (akshat)

  • Wheat or grains

  • Fruits

  • Milk, kheer or sweets

  • Red or white flowers

  • Kumkum, haldi, chandan

  • Incense sticks (agarbatti)

  • Ghee diya (lamp)

  • Camphor

  • Kalash (water pot)

  • Cooking utensils (clean and symbolic)

  • Cooked food as bhog

  • Betel leaves and supari (optional)

Sankalp (Resolution)

  • Sit calmly with folded hands

  • Take a vow to perform Annapurna Mata puja with devotion

  • Pray for food security, prosperity, health, and abundance in the home

Dhyan (Meditation)

  • Close your eyes and meditate on Maa Annapurna

  • Visualize her divine form blessing devotees with food and abundance

  • Focus on gratitude for nourishment and life

Avahan (Invocation)

  • Invite Maa Annapurna to accept your worship

  • Offer flowers and akshat with devotion

  • Chant 'Om Annapurnayai Namah' 11 or 21 times

Asana & Padya

  • Offer flowers as a symbolic seat

  • Sprinkle clean water for purification

Snan (Bathing Ritual)

  • Symbolically offer water or panchamrit to the idol/image

  • Clean the altar with devotion and purity

Alankaar (Decoration)

  • Apply kumkum, haldi, and chandan

  • Offer flowers and decorate the idol simply and respectfully

Pushpanjali

  • Offer flowers with folded hands

  • Pray for abundance of food, wealth, and happiness in life

Naivedya (Bhog)

  • Offer freshly cooked food, rice, dal, roti, or kheer

  • Offer fruits and sweets

  • Pray with gratitude before consuming food

Dhoop & Deep

  • Light incense sticks in the kitchen or puja area

  • Light a ghee diya

  • Offer camphor aarti if available

Mantra Jaap

  • Chant 'Om Hreem Shreem Kleem Annapurnayai Namah' 11, 21, or 108 times

  • Recite Annapurna Stotra or prayer if possible

Aarti

  • Perform Maa Annapurna Aarti with devotion

  • Wave diya in circular motion before the deity

  • Express gratitude for food and nourishment

Pradakshina

  • Circumambulate around the puja area 1 or 3 times

Pranam (Final Prayer)

  • Bow down before Maa Annapurna

  • Pray for never-ending food supply, prosperity, and family well-being

Prasad Distribution

  • Distribute cooked food and sweets as prasad among family members

  • Share food with respect and gratitude

Worshipping Maa Annapurna is especially auspicious in kitchens and homes. Thursdays and auspicious festivals are ideal for her puja. It is important to never waste food and always express gratitude before eating.
