Ganesh Ji Puja Vidhi

Ganesh Ji puja is most effective with purity, simplicity, and devotion.

Preparation

  • Take a bath and wear clean clothes

  • Clean the puja area properly

  • Place Ganesh Ji idol or image on a clean platform

  • Sit facing east or north direction

Required Items (Samagri)

  • Idol or image of Lord Ganesha

  • Flowers (preferably red)

  • Durva grass

  • Modak or sweets

  • Fruits

  • Incense sticks (Agarbatti)

  • Diya (lamp)

  • Kumkum, Haldi, Chandan

  • Water vessel

  • Coconut (optional)

Sankalp (Resolution)

  • Sit calmly and take a vow to perform the puja with devotion

  • Pray for wisdom, success, and removal of obstacles

Dhyan (Meditation)

  • Close your eyes and remember Lord Ganesha

  • Visualize his elephant face, large belly, and peaceful form

  • Focus your mind for a few minutes

Avahan (Invocation)

  • Invite Ganesh Ji to accept your worship

  • Chant 'Om Gan Ganapataye Namah' 11 or 21 times

Asana & Padya

  • Offer a flower as a symbolic seat

  • Sprinkle water to welcome and purify

Snan (Bathing)

  • Sprinkle clean water on the idol

  • Optionally offer milk and then rinse with water

Alankaar (Decoration)

  • Apply Haldi, Kumkum, and Chandan

  • Offer flowers and Durva grass

Naivedya (Bhog)

  • Offer Modak, sweets, and fruits

  • Pray to accept the offering with devotion

Dhoop & Deep

  • Light incense sticks

  • Light diya (lamp)

Aarti

  • Sing 'Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Deva'

  • Wave the diya in circular motion

Pradakshina

  • Circumambulate around the idol 1 or 3 times

Pranam (Final Prayer)

  • Bow down and seek blessings

  • Pray for removal of obstacles and success

Prasad Distribution

  • Distribute sweets and fruits as prasad

Important Guidelines

Durva grass is essential in Ganesh Puja. Avoid offering Tulsi leaves. Wednesday and Ganesh Chaturthi are considered highly auspicious. Devotion and sincerity are more important than ritual complexity.
