Shri Gayatri Mata Puja Vidhi

Shri Gayatri Mata puja is performed for wisdom, intellect, clarity of mind, spiritual awakening, protection, and success in education and life. Goddess Gayatri is worshipped as the mother of the Vedas and the embodiment of divine knowledge and light.

Preparation

  • Take a bath early in the morning and wear clean clothes

  • Clean the puja area properly

  • Place Shri Gayatri Mata idol or image on a clean platform

  • Keep a calm and peaceful environment

  • Sit facing east or north direction

  • Preferably perform puja during Brahma Muhurat or sunrise

Required Items (Samagri)

  • Idol or image of Gayatri Mata

  • Red or yellow flowers

  • Chandan paste

  • Kumkum and Haldi

  • Akshat (rice)

  • Incense sticks (Agarbatti)

  • Ghee diya (lamp)

  • Camphor

  • Clean water or Kalash

  • Fruits and sweets

  • Milk or Panchamrit

  • Yellow cloth

  • Mala for mantra chanting

Sankalp (Resolution)

  • Sit calmly with folded hands

  • Take a vow to perform Gayatri Mata puja with devotion and purity

  • Pray for wisdom, knowledge, clarity, and spiritual growth

Dhyan (Meditation)

  • Close your eyes and meditate on Gayatri Mata

  • Visualize her radiant form seated on a lotus with divine light

  • Focus on divine knowledge and universal energy

Avahan (Invocation)

  • Invite Gayatri Mata into your puja space

  • Offer flowers with devotion

  • Chant 'Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha' or 'Om Gayatri Namah' 11 or 21 times

Asana & Padya

  • Offer flowers as a symbolic seat

  • Sprinkle water to purify and welcome the goddess

Snan (Bathing Ritual)

  • Gently sprinkle clean water on the idol or image

  • Offer milk or Panchamrit if available

  • Wipe gently with a clean cloth

Alankaar (Decoration)

  • Apply Chandan, Kumkum, and Haldi

  • Offer yellow or red flowers

  • Decorate with yellow cloth if possible

Pushpanjali

  • Offer flowers with folded hands

  • Pray for wisdom, knowledge, intellect, and success

Naivedya (Bhog)

  • Offer fruits, sweets, milk, and sattvic food

  • Pray for acceptance of offerings with blessings

Dhoop & Deep

  • Light incense sticks

  • Light a ghee diya

  • Offer camphor aarti if available

Mantra Jaap

  • Chant the Gayatri Mantra: 'Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha Tat Savitur Varenyam Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat' 108 times

  • Recite Gayatri Chalisa or stotra if possible

Aarti

  • Perform Gayatri Mata Aarti with devotion

  • Wave diya in circular motion before the goddess

Pradakshina

  • Circumambulate around the puja space 1 or 3 times

Pranam (Final Prayer)

  • Bow down before Gayatri Mata

  • Seek blessings for wisdom, intellect, spiritual awakening, and protection

Prasad Distribution

  • Distribute fruits and sweets as prasad

Important Guidelines

Gayatri puja is most effective when done during sunrise or Brahma Muhurat. Cleanliness, concentration, and pronunciation of mantra are very important. Regular chanting of the Gayatri Mantra is believed to enhance intellect and spiritual growth.
