Shri Narmada Mata Puja Vidhi

Shri Narmada Mata puja is performed for purification, peace, spiritual upliftment, protection from negativity, health, prosperity, and divine blessings. Maa Narmada is worshipped as a sacred river goddess whose darshan and remembrance are believed to remove sins and grant spiritual merit.

Preparation

  • Take a bath early in the morning and wear clean clothes

  • Clean the puja area properly

  • Place an image of Maa Narmada or a kalash filled with clean water on a clean platform

  • Decorate the altar with flowers and a clean cloth

  • Sit facing east or north direction

  • Maintain a peaceful and devotional atmosphere

Required Items (Samagri)

  • Image of Maa Narmada or sacred water vessel

  • Clean water

  • Flowers

  • Kumkum, Haldi, and Chandan

  • Akshat (rice)

  • Incense sticks (Agarbatti)

  • Ghee diya (lamp)

  • Camphor

  • Fruits

  • Milk or sweets for bhog

  • Tulsi leaves (optional)

  • Coconut

  • Kalash

Sankalp (Resolution)

  • Sit calmly with folded hands

  • Take a vow to perform Maa Narmada puja with devotion and purity

  • Pray for spiritual peace, purification, prosperity, and family well-being

Dhyan (Meditation)

  • Close your eyes and meditate on Maa Narmada

  • Visualize the sacred river flowing with divine purity and blessings

  • Focus your mind with peace and devotion

Avahan (Invocation)

  • Invite Maa Narmada to accept your worship

  • Offer flowers and akshat respectfully

  • Chant 'Om Narmadaye Namah' 11 or 21 times

Asana & Padya

  • Offer flowers as a symbolic seat

  • Sprinkle clean water for welcome and purification

Snan (Bathing Ritual)

  • Offer clean water symbolically to Maa Narmada

  • If worshipping a kalash, sprinkle water around the altar respectfully

Alankaar (Decoration)

  • Apply kumkum, haldi, and chandan

  • Offer flowers and decorate the altar beautifully

  • Light lamps to create a divine atmosphere

Pushpanjali

  • Offer flowers with folded hands

  • Pray for purity, spiritual strength, peace, and protection

Naivedya (Bhog)

  • Offer fruits, milk, sweets, or simple sattvic food

  • Offer coconut and pray for blessings

  • Request Maa Narmada to accept the bhog with grace

Dhoop & Deep

  • Light incense sticks

  • Light a ghee diya

  • Offer camphor aarti if available

Mantra Jaap

  • Chant 'Om Narmadaye Namah' 11, 21, or 108 times

  • Recite Narmada Ashtakam or Narmada Stuti if possible

  • Pray sincerely for spiritual purification and divine blessings

Aarti

  • Perform Maa Narmada Aarti with devotion

  • Wave the diya in circular motion before the image or kalash

  • Sing devotional hymns peacefully

Pradakshina

  • Circumambulate around the puja place 1 or 3 times

Pranam (Final Prayer)

  • Bow down before Maa Narmada

  • Seek blessings for purity, prosperity, peace, health, and spiritual upliftment

Prasad Distribution

  • Distribute sweets, fruits, and prasad among family members and devotees

Important Guidelines

Monday, Purnima, Narmada Jayanti, and special river festivals are considered auspicious for Maa Narmada worship. Devotees often perform deep daan near rivers and chant sacred hymns. Worship should always be performed with purity, gratitude, and respect toward nature and sacred rivers.
