Shri Sitala Mata Puja Vidhi

Worship of Shitala Mata is considered highly auspicious for health, protection from diseases, and peace and harmony within the family. Devotion and purity in the worship of Shitala Mata bring peace and good health into life.

Preparation

  • Take a bath early in the morning and wear clean clothes

  • Clean and purify the worship area properly

  • Place the idol or image of Shitala Mata on a clean platform

  • Sit facing east or north direction

Required Items

  • Idol or image of Shitala Mata

  • Flowers

  • Turmeric, kumkum, and sandalwood paste

  • Incense sticks

  • Ghee lamp (diya)

  • Water vessel

  • Coconut

  • Fruits

  • Sweets

  • Stale or cold food offering (such as puri, halwa, curd, rice)

  • Neem leaves

Sankalp (Resolution)

  • Take a vow with a peaceful mind to worship the Goddess

  • Pray for family health and protection from diseases

Dhyan (Meditation)

  • Close your eyes and meditate on Shitala Mata

  • Remember her calm and compassionate form

  • Focus the mind for a few moments in devotion

Avahan (Invocation)

  • Invite Shitala Mata to accept your worship

  • Chant 'Om Shitalayai Namah' 11 or 21 times

Asana & Padya

  • Offer flowers as a symbolic seat

  • Offer water for welcome and purification

Snan (Bathing Ritual)

  • Offer clean water to the idol or image

  • Optionally purify with Gangajal

Alankaar (Decoration)

  • Apply turmeric, kumkum, and sandalwood paste

  • Offer flowers and neem leaves

Naivedya (Offering Food)

  • Offer cold or stale food as bhog

  • Offer fruits and sweets

  • Pray for acceptance of the offering with devotion

Dhoop & Deep

  • Light incense sticks

  • Light a ghee lamp

Aarti

  • Sing Shitala Mata Aarti with devotion

  • Move the lamp in a circular motion while performing aarti

Pradakshina

  • Circumambulate around the idol or worship space 1 or 3 times

Pranam (Final Prayer)

  • Bow down to the Goddess and seek blessings

  • Pray for health, peace, and happiness

Prasad Distribution

  • Distribute the offered food and fruits as prasad

Important Guidelines

Shitala Mata worship is especially performed on Shitala Ashtami. On this day, instead of freshly cooked food, offering food prepared the previous day is considered auspicious. Cleanliness, devotion, and neem leaves hold special importance in this worship.
