Surya Dev Puja Vidhi

Surya Dev puja is performed for health, energy, success, confidence, prosperity, and removal of negativity. Lord Surya is worshipped as the visible form of divine light and the source of life, strength, and vitality.

Preparation

  • Wake up early before sunrise

  • Take a bath and wear clean clothes

  • Clean the puja area properly

  • Place Surya Dev idol or image on a clean platform

  • Face east direction during the puja

  • Maintain purity, calmness, and devotion

Required Items (Samagri)

  • Idol or image of Surya Dev

  • Copper vessel (Lota) filled with water

  • Red flowers

  • Red sandalwood or Chandan

  • Kumkum and Akshat (rice)

  • Incense sticks (Agarbatti)

  • Ghee diya (lamp)

  • Camphor

  • Jaggery and wheat grains

  • Fruits

  • Red cloth (optional)

  • Tulsi leaves (optional)

  • Mala for mantra chanting

Sankalp (Resolution)

  • Sit calmly with folded hands

  • Take a vow to perform Surya Dev puja with faith and devotion

  • Pray for good health, success, confidence, prosperity, and positivity

Dhyan (Meditation)

  • Close your eyes and meditate on Surya Dev

  • Visualize the radiant Sun God seated on a chariot with seven horses

  • Focus on divine light and positive energy

Arghya Offering

  • Stand facing the rising sun

  • Offer water slowly from a copper vessel toward the Sun

  • Offer red flowers and Akshat while praying

  • Chant Surya mantra during the offering

Avahan (Invocation)

  • Invite Surya Dev to accept your worship

  • Offer flowers with devotion

  • Chant 'Om Suryaya Namah' 11 or 21 times

Asana & Padya

  • Offer flowers as a symbolic seat to Surya Dev

  • Sprinkle water for purification and welcome

Snan (Bathing Ritual)

  • Sprinkle clean water on the idol or image

  • Optionally offer milk mixed with water

  • Wipe gently with a clean cloth

Alankaar (Decoration)

  • Apply Kumkum and Chandan

  • Offer red flowers and red cloth if available

  • Decorate the deity with devotion

Pushpanjali

  • Offer flowers with folded hands

  • Pray for health, wisdom, confidence, and success

Naivedya (Bhog)

  • Offer jaggery, wheat, fruits, or sweets

  • Pray for Surya Dev to accept the offering with blessings

Dhoop & Deep

  • Light incense sticks

  • Light a ghee diya

  • Offer camphor if available

Mantra Jaap

  • Chant 'Om Hraam Hreem Hraum Sah Suryaya Namah' 11, 21, or 108 times

  • Recite Aditya Hridayam, Surya Chalisa, or Surya Aarti if possible

Aarti

  • Perform Surya Dev Aarti with devotion

  • Wave the diya in circular motion before the deity

Pradakshina

  • Circumambulate around the puja place or idol 1 or 3 times

Pranam (Final Prayer)

  • Bow down before Surya Dev

  • Seek blessings for good health, energy, success, wisdom, and protection

Prasad Distribution

  • Distribute fruits, jaggery, sweets, and prasad among family members

Important Guidelines

Sunday is considered highly auspicious for Surya Dev worship. Offering Arghya to the rising sun daily is believed to improve health, confidence, and positive energy. Makar Sankranti, Ratha Saptami, and Chhath Puja are especially important festivals related to Surya Dev worship.
