Vayu Dev Puja Vidhi

Lord Vayu Dev is the Hindu God of Wind and one of the Pancha Mahabhutas (Five Elements). He is the life force (Prana), father of Lord Hanuman and Bhima, and the giver of strength, speed, and good health. Worshipping Vayu Dev brings physical and mental strength, removes breathing-related problems, increases vitality, and helps in overcoming obstacles.

Preparation

  • Take a bath early in the morning

  • Wear clean white, blue or saffron clothes

  • Clean the puja place thoroughly

  • Place the idol or picture of Vayu Dev (along with Hanuman Ji if possible)

  • Sit facing North-West direction

Required Materials

  • Idol or picture of Vayu Dev

  • White or blue cloth

  • Fresh flowers (white or blue)

  • Incense sticks (agarbatti)

  • Ghee lamp (diya)

  • Sandalwood paste

  • Kumkum, turmeric, akshat

  • Fruits (especially banana and apple)

  • Sweets

  • Coconut

  • Betel leaves and nuts

  • Panchamrit

Sankalp (Resolution)

  • Sit peacefully and take a sankalp

  • Pray for good health, physical strength, vitality, and removal of obstacles

Puja Vidhi Steps

  • Light the lamp and incense sticks

  • Worship Lord Ganesha first for obstacle removal

  • Offer flowers, sandalwood paste, kumkum and akshat to Vayu Dev

  • Perform abhishek (bath) with water or panchamrit

  • Offer fruits, sweets, banana and coconut as naivedya

  • Chant Vayu Dev mantras with devotion

Main Mantra

  • Om Vayave Namah

  • Om Pavanaaya Namah

  • Om Hanumat Pitaaya Vayave Namah

  • Chant any of the above mantras 108 times or multiples of 108

Aarti & Pradakshina

  • Perform Vayu Dev Aarti with devotion

  • Circumambulate the altar 3, 7, or 11 times

Pranam & Conclusion

  • Bow down to Vayu Dev and pray for strength, good health and prana shakti

  • Seek blessings for yourself and your family

  • Distribute prasad among family members

Important Instructions

Vayu Puja is especially beneficial on Saturdays, Thursdays, and during Hanuman Jayanti. It is highly recommended for people suffering from breathing problems, low energy, Vata dosha, or those who need physical and mental strength. Always worship Vayu Dev with pure heart and positive thoughts. Offering bananas and lighting incense pleases him greatly.
