Garuda Dev is revered as the mighty bird-being, the vahana of Lord Vishnu, and a symbol of speed, courage, devotion, and protection. He is often shown with eagle-like power and divine awareness, carrying Vishnu and standing against forces that bind or poison life.
Puranic traditions describe Garuda as the son of Kashyapa and Vinata. His story is strongly connected with his mother's bondage and his heroic effort to bring amrita so that she could be freed. This part of the tradition shows Garuda as a devoted son whose strength is guided by duty, not pride.
Garuda is also remembered as the great opponent of serpents, but the deeper meaning is not hatred. Serpents in these stories can represent bondage, poison, fear, and hidden danger. Garuda represents clarity rising above them, the power to escape inner slavery and move toward divine refuge.
As Vishnu's vehicle, Garuda teaches that power becomes sacred when it carries dharma. Speed without direction becomes restlessness, but speed offered to Vishnu becomes service. This is why Garuda devotion is connected with protection, discipline, and fearless surrender.
Garuda is honored in many Vishnu temples, often facing the Lord with folded hands. Devotees see in this posture the ideal relationship between strength and humility. Even the mighty Garuda stands as a servant before the Divine.
For daily remembrance, Garuda Dev may be worshipped for courage, protection from fear, removal of inner poison, and loyalty to dharma. The most meaningful offering is clean conduct, alertness, and a willingness to use strength for protection rather than domination.
